Movie Review: “Please Punish Me” Requires No Discipline

[yasr_overall_rating]

Scottie, a businessman, is tired of his good luck. So, he seeks to be punished for his “curse”.

“Please Punish Me” tells the story of Scottie (David Sackal), a businessman who has just been promoted to the position of senior partner at his company. The thing is, he doesn’t want it. Sure he’ll receive a nice big raise, an expensive car and all the perks and trappings that come with such advancement but he doesn’t feel that he deserves it. Scottie would prefer to draw cartoons, much like he did when he was back in college when he wrote and drew for the college newspaper rather than work at his current workplace.

When a colleague hands him a business card for a company called PUNISH ME PALACE, he decides to stop by so he can receive the necessary recompense he feels he deserves. Instead of a homicidal dominatrix, he receives Michelle (Joanna Donofrio), a shy, unassuming young lady who tries to be assertive and controlling but confesses that this is not her thing. The only reason she does it is because she lost her job and makes good money here.

Both Scottie and Michelle hit it off and admit to each other and themselves, that they hate their current jobs and decide to do something about it. “Please Punish Me” isn’t a moral compass or critique for the various assortment of jobs in the world, it tells the story of two very different people who are walking a similar path that while financially rewarding, is not personally gratifying and I know we’ve all been there. “Please Punish Me” is short and sweet and by the time it’s over, forces you to contemplate your own life. And there’s not many movies that can do that.

“Punish Me Please” is playing on the Film Festival circuit
