The movie follows the real-life events of the Second Battle of Yeonpyeong which happened in 2002.

“Northern Limit Line” is a film filled with suspense, tension and an intense, climactic sea battle. The movie is based on real life events that happened in 2002. It showed a glimpse of what is like to serve in the South Korean Navy. Viewers on drawn into the film and brought into the life of the characters.

The film was not in my native tongue but I found the close captioning made me pay closer attention to the movie and I was drawn into the suspense. The film is a bit lengthy coming in slightly over two hours. However, the climactic battle scene is worth the wait.

The movie spent time to show glimpses of the sailor’s personal lives. It showed the camaraderie they developed as they served together. It showed what a sailor’s life was like in South Korea. It allowed the audience to get to know the characters more. Perhaps overdone a bit. However, when viewers care about the characters it does add to the tension and suspense.

The highlight of the movie for me was the battle scene. I thought it was well crafted. It showed the sailors’ bravery and courage. The film also showed their pain, wounds and the damage of the battle. Every shot fired, every explosion, every injury was delivered in great detail.

The film is an excellent tribute to the men and woman who served on the Korean Battleship 357. The film used the backdrop of the events of 2002 to pump up even more patriotic pride for the Republic of Korea. The film clearly defines the conflict is between the South Koreans and the North Koreans with the Northern neighbors portrayed as the bad guys. Adding additional footage at the end even adds more to the characters. The movie takes these heroic sailors and turns them into heroes on the big screen as well.
