DVD Review: “DuckTales Destination: Adventure” Is Full Of Imagination

An ancient tomb in Toth-Ra, the mountain peak of Mt. Neverrest, a vacation island for Greek gods…global expeditions await! Thanks to Huey, Dewey, Louie and Webby, trillionaire Scrooge McDuck is back in action, leading the way to death-defying exploits stretching all the way from Duckburg to legendary destinations around the world. Let the greatest family adventures begin!

A few months back I reviewed another DuckTales DVD and gave it the terrible review it deserved because it was so dark and angry. I expected “DuckTales Destination: Adventure” to be equally obnoxious and surprised to find myself enjoying the first and then each subsequent episode. With over two hours of adventurous duck tales, your kids will engage with the imaginative plots and funny characters.

Follow Webby, the girl duck, as she makes a new friend and finds her own secret language and memories. Explore ancient Egypt as the ducks help mummies rise against a Pharaoh for some burritos. Climb Mount Neverest with Huey, Dewey, and Louie for a day in the snow. Head to Greece to meet Storkules, the bird version of Hercules. The ducks are in real trouble when Zeus seeks to end their lives. Learn to golf the difficult druid course and remember past episodes when Darkwing Duck returns as the caped crusader with the classic line, “Let’s get dangerous.” If these perilous episodes aren’t enough, then watch the two bonus classic episodes with the familiar enemy Ma Beagle and her boys.

These new episodes captured the essence from the eighties kids favorites so much better than the previous release that focused on the dark and angsty scrooge. My thirteen-year-old sat through every episode and laughed a lot. Me too. Who doesn’t love overthrowing a Pharaoh for burritos? The ducklings were cute and precocious getting themselves into trouble just as we would expect. Launchpad, Scrooge’s sidekick and driver, is as humorous as ever. He is like Kronk from “The Emperor’s New Groove” but with feathers. Buy this DVD for your kiddos. It will be nostalgic for you and fun for them. I wish the classic episodes had included my favorites from when I was a kid but it’s not like I have been secretly pining for the show, at least not much. Everyone wants to swim in Scrooge’s pool of money.

Available on Disney DVD Tuesday, June 5th
