*Warner Bros. Home Entertainment provided me with a free copy of this Blu-ray I reviewed in the post. The opinions I share are my own.

Alex and Me is an uplifting story of the passion and drive it takes to succeed and the power of family to help realize your dreams.

Reagan Wills (Siena Agudong) dreams of becoming a famous soccer player like her favorite player Alex Morgan (played by herself) but lives in her older brother Logan’s (Matt Cornett) shadow and her family’s desire to help him get a football scholarship. Reagan tries out for the local time with tyrant Coach Oz (James Moses Black) but fails to impress him with her lack of skills. Back home, she bonks her head and wakes up to find Alex Morgan, Olympic gold medalist, in her room straight out of the poster on Reagan’s bedroom wall. Alex helps whip Reagan into shape just as Reagan finds a castoff team that needs lots of work to make it to champions. With a new team of underdogs, Reagan finds herself the center of attention amongst many new friends.

When their coach flakes on them, Reagan’s new team, the Breakaways, lean on the tips and tricks Reagan gets from Alex to improve their soccer skills. Reagan’s family notice her talking to an imaginary friend and finally pay attention to her, including her older brother Logan who finds his little sister to be an inspiration in his own training. With everything going on in her life, Reagan and her best friend Grace (Julia Antonelli) fail to leave a good impression on the new boy in town and drag him away from their arch nemesis Claire, until they run into each other on the soccer field. With Reagan’s dad (Jim Klock) as the coach, which he is unaware of, the Breakaways began to win games and find themselves at the championship but can they beat Claire’s team and take the cup?

“Alex & Me” is a funny little inspirational film for girls up to their preteen years about one girl’s love of soccer and unwillingness to give up on her dream. This is the perfect movie to inspire young girls not to give up on their dreams and that talking to yourself is helpful. Just kidding. But girls need role models and this feel-good flick will have them reaching inside for inner strength. Both boys and girls under the age of thirteen will enjoy Reagan’s plucky storyline and stubbornness for her love of soccer. Even parents will laugh at some funny antics and cute campy plot lines. The Breakaways have a collection of interesting characters including a relative of writer and director Eric Champnella. This is the perfect movie to keep kids quiet on long road trips and moms will love a movie that sends a positive message in a light manner. You may even find yourself enjoying soccer, even if you never did before.

Available on Blu-ray & DVD June 19th
