Women In Film Aims To ‘Flip The Script’ With Provocative Digital Series/Social Media Campaign On Gender Parity In Hollywood

The production mentoring program of the Los Angeles chapter of Women In Film (WIF), the premier organization promoting increased roles for women within the entertainment industry, is launching a provocative, new, digital series and social media campaign today, Flip the Script, which aims to open an irreverently fresh dialog about gender parity in Hollywood.

The comedic, short-form series – which premiered to much fanfare last night at WIF’s annual, star-studded Crystal + Lucy Awards in Beverly Hills, prior to its online debut today – casts a unique perspective on the real-life, sexist experiences of women in the industry by re-enacting them verbatim … and simply swapping gender roles. With both humor and empathy, this satiric but enlightening twist challenges the age-old paradigms of how women are treated in the workplace.

Some of Hollywood’s most prominent actors have contributed to the series, including Lake Bell (“The Secret Life of Pets”), Jeff Garlin (“Curb Your Enthusiasm”), Ian Harding (“Pretty Little Liars”), Rob Huebel (“Transparent”), Jerrika Hinton (“Grey’s Anatomy”), Amy Landecker (“Transparent”) and Michaela Watkins (“Wanderlust”). Also, a who’s who from behind the camera, including director Jamie Babbit (“Girls”), producer/director Beth McCarthy-Miller (“Modern Family”) and cinematographer Cynthia Pusheck, A.S.C. (“Good Girls Revolt”).

The first four installations of the series are: “Diva Director” (launching June 14), “Mad Women” (June 16), “Shelf Life” (June 21) and “Market Value” (June 28).

The series was written and created by Ally Iseman (“American Housewife”), produced by Meredith Riley Stewart (“Scandal”) and executive produced by Tessa Bell (“Life Inside Out”).

Commented Iseman, “Our aim is to empower and educate, not point a finger. Many people do not even realize they are a part of the issue. We want to encourage them to emulate and celebrate advocates who are taking public action towards change. The goal of this series is to make itself irrelevant. Progress only occurs when the needle is pushed from sympathy to empathy and humor is a powerful tool to create that shift in perspective.”
