TV Review: “60 Days In” Takes Viewers Into The Shoes Of An Inmate But The Twist Is, They Are Innocent

“60 Days In” is an unprecedented new, original docu-series following seven innocent participants who enter the dangerous world of incarceration at the Clark County Jail in Jeffersonville, Indiana, in an effort to expose internal issues and what really happens behind bars.

“60 Days In” is an unprecedented docu-series that follows seven innocent individuals and their journey inside Clarke County Jail in order to root out corruption and/or illegal activity being partaken in. In the beginning, it looks like your normal scare tactic, young adult reformation program-style television show but as you dive into the episode, you realize this is something that has never been done before. These individuals are innocent but that is unknown to both the inmates and the staff at the jail. The correctional officers think they are lawbreakers and the inmates see them as fresh meat. The introductions start almost immediately and you can’t help but pick your champion.

I feel that a crowd favorite will be Tami, a 21 year veteran of the police force who has honorable reasons for being part of the study. The villain or the wise-guy of the group will no doubt be Robert, a cocky school teacher who thinks that the sixty days will be filled with kicking your feet up in a five star facility. He even makes a comment near the middle of the episode saying “I think this whole process is going to be too easy.” Honestly, I hope it leads the viewer begging for him to receive a wake up call.

This isn’t a sugar-coated series showing you the light version of the system, this series shows you the grit and the stains within the system. It shows you the animals of the system that not only wear jumpsuits but badges as well. It is as much a social experiment as it is a drama. The prison system is a culture in itself comprised of a plethora of subcultures and there is no room for ethnocentrism. Usually the first episode can’t be an accurate gauge for a series but “60 Days In” looks very very promising. I cannot wait until it drops.

“60 Days In” premieres Thursday, March 10th at 9/8c and beginning March 17th, episodes will air weekly at 10/9c on A&E
