Set in a department store, four women with seemingly nothing in common but a black lace bra on sale, come to find they have more to share than ever imagined. The cast makes fun of their woeful hot flashes, forgetfulness, mood swings, wrinkles, night sweats and chocolate binges.

“Menopause The Musical: The Survivor Tour” takes all the physical and mental changes and challenges menopause dumps on women, and gives us a way to laugh about it.

“Menopause The Musical” is set in a department store where four women at a lingerie sale have nothing in common but a black lace bra and memory loss, hot flashes, night sweats, not enough sex, too much sex and more! Singing along to clasic tunes from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, the cast forms a sisterhood with the entire audience. Whether naturally occuring or thrust into as a result of cancer treatment, “Menopause The Musical” helps women embrace and celebrate that menopause is no longer the “silent passage.”

GFOUR productions, winner of 54 Drama Desk Awards and 44 Tony Awards, has teamed up with Susan G. Koman to not only bring awareness and support, but also for the mission of saving lives and ending breast cancer. $2 of every ticket sold will be donated to this cause.

For more tha a decade, “Menopause The Musical” has worked to inspire and support women dealing with life after “The Change.” Originally produced as a Las Vegas show, “Menopause The Musical” is recognized as the longest-running scripted muscial in Las Vegas, and continues to run nightly at Harrah’s. “The Survivor Tour” is unique in that all 4 cast members are breast cancer survivors themselves.

The show is most definitely demographically aimed at women who have been “blessed” with natural menopause, or those of us who have been thrown into the menopause deep end by cancer treatments. This is not to say that my husband didn’t enjoy the show. He did. Most of the performance had him laughing hard enough to shake his seat and mine. All of the music used are familiar tunes, but the lyrics have been rewritten with the challenges of menopause in mind. From curtain up to curtain down, I don’t think I ever really stopped laughing.

My only disapointment in the show was that it left me wanting to hear more dialogue and monologue. I wanted to hear how these four women felt beyond the silly jokes and funny songs. Unfortunately, there is just enough script to transition from one musical number to the next. Much more a musical review than a musical. Knowing that this was the “Survivor Tour,” I was hoping that there was going to be some humor and insight on how cancer makes a woman feel when you get thrown off into the deep end of menopause without any warning. No such luck.

However, please don’t let my small disapointments keep you from gathering up your closest girlfriends and having a “girls night out” adventure that will have you laughing long after you leave the theatre. As a bonus, I’ll pass along some fun info for attending the show. The cast plays a game of Let’s Make A Deal with the audience before the show asking for things from a woman’s purse. If you want to try and win some fun prizes, take along with you a pack of travel tissues, a candy bar, a condom and a small battery operated fan.

“Menopause The Musical: The Survivor Tour” is playing exclusively at the Music Hall at Fair Park July 21st through July 26th
