SCREAM TEENS: 5 Teenage Psychopaths In Movies

Most teenagers are crazy but luckily they don’t all turn out to be Norman Bates!

The new film from Osgood Perkins, “The Blackcoat’s Daughter,” follows a teenage girl named Kat (played by “Mad Men” star Kiernan Shipka) who becomes plagued by intense and horrifying visions at her boarding school. Suspense and terror build as she slips into the grasp of an evil force…

In celebration of the release of “The Blackcoat’s Daughter,” we chose to highlight a few of the craziest, most psychotic teens in movie history.

1)   Kevin Khatchadourian in “We Need to Talk About Kevin”

Kevin is a troubled high school student who has been detached his entire life. His mother Eva has trouble bonding with Kevin, who strives to misbehave just to torment her. While his father Franklin is ignorant to his behavior, Kevin shows jealousy and disdain towards his younger sister Celia, who is blinded in one eye. As a teenager, Kevin commits a high school massacre striking and killing students with his bow and arrow. Eva later discovers the arrow-penetrated corpses of her husband and Celia in the backyard. Kevin spends life in prison, admittedly unsure why he committed the murders to begin with.

2)   Pauline in “Excision”

Pauline is a disturbed and delusional high school student with dreams of a career in medicine. Pauline has vivid dreams about herself and others being mutilated with excessive amounts of blood. Her obsession with blood drives her to lose her virginity while on her period. Her younger sister Grace suffers from cystic fibrosis and may be in need of a lung transplant. Pauline lures a young neighbor over and knocks her out with a chemical. She then drugs Grace and shaves her own hair. She cuts open both girls and begins her surgery, moving the healthy girl’s lungs into her sister. When her mother arrives home to see the horror Pauline explains it is her very first surgery.

3)   Hayley Stark in “Hard Candy”

Fourteen-year-old Hayley Stark agrees to meet a thirty-two-year-old photographer named Jeff Kohlver in person after chatting on the interview. Despite the age difference, Hayley flirts with and agrees to go to his house. Once there, she prepares a screwdriver for them and Jeff passes out. When he awakens, he is tied up to a chair, and Hayley accuses him of pedophilia. Jeff denies the accusation, and Hayley begins to torture him in a cat and mouse game.

4)   Harlon Mackey in “White Rabbit”

Harlon Mackey has been tormented by visions since his alcoholic father forced him to kill an innocent rabbit while hunting as a boy. Now that Harlon is a bullied high school teen, his undiagnosed mental illness is getting worse. He begins to hear voices, and his imagination encourages him to carry out violent acts. Things begin to look up when Julie a rebellious young girl, moves to town and befriends Harlon. But when she betrays him, the line between reality and Harlon’s imagination begins to blur, and the rabbit along with other imaginary comic book characters taunt him into committing one final act of violence involving the girl he loves and the high shool he despises.

5)   Jason “J.D.” Dean in “Heathers”

J.D. is the mysterious new kid at Westerburg High School in Sherwood, Ohio. He immediately falls for the witty Veronica Sawyer, a popular girl who belongs to a clique consisting of three girls named Heather. He and Veronica “unintentionally” serve the clique’s leader Heather Chandler a drink of drain cleaner, which kills her immediately. Panicked, the two decide to make her murder look like a tragic suicide. Veronica gets caught up in a twisted game of murder and cover-ups. She must put an end to J.D.’s deadly antics before he succeeds at blowing up their high school and killing everyone… including himself.

A24 and DirecTV will release “The Blackcoat’s Daughter” in theaters and On Demand March 31st
