Rover Dramawerks To Present 365 Women A Year Festival

For the third straight year, Rover Dramawerks is pleased to partner with the playwrights’ group 365 Women a Year to present a festival of plays about women, for everyone. This international playwriting coalition, founded by Jesslynn Eisenberg Chamblee, involves playwrights across the world who have signed on to write one or more plays about extraordinary women in both past and present history. The project’s ambitious yet focused goal is to write women back into the social consciousness, as well as empower and promote female playwrights, and plant seeds of herstory around the country.

Twelve performances by playwrights from seven states will take place Thursdays and Fridays at 8:00 pm, and Saturdays at 3:00 and 8:00 pm April 6-15, at Rover Dramawerks, located in Ruisseau Village at 221 W. Parker Rd, Suite 580, at the northwest corner of Parker and 75.

The performance schedule is as follows:

Thursday, April 6 at 8:00 pm; Saturday, April 8 at 3:00 pm; Friday, April 14 at 8:00 pm; and Saturday, April 15 at 8:00 p.m.

Friday, April 7 at 8:00 pm; Saturday, April 8 at 8:00 pm; Thursday, April 13 at 8:00 pm; and Saturday, April 15 at 3:00 p.m.

Little Swan by Allie Costa (Los Angeles, CA)
The Mysterious Affair at the Christies by Jennifer O’Grady (Pelham, NY)

Plays range from long monologs to large casts and cover the last 300 years to present day and everywhere in between. Likewise, they will range in length from less than 10 minutes to about an hour. Local playwrights include Caroline Turner Cole, J. Sanders-Nelson (who was also represented last year), and Carol M. Rice (who has written all three years). Allie Costa of Los Angeles, Jennifer O’Grady of Pelham, NY, and Susan Shafer of New York City also return for the second year, and Rita Anderson of Austin returns for the third year.

365 Women a Year involves playwrights from around the world. They are not a business or even a non-profit. They simply want to get more plays written about women. 2017 marks the fourth year for the playwriting coalition and no repeats are allowed, so by the end of this year, there will be over 1,400 new plays about unique women in history!

Tickets for the 365 Women a Year Festival are $14.00 for adults and $12.00 for students/seniors and members of the League of Professional Theatre Women and may be ordered online at www.roverdramawerks.com
