Open Road Films To Release Sundance Hit Film “Dope” Nationwide June 12th

“A kinetic blast of hip-hop, bitcoins, and teenage swagger that is nothing short of intoxicating… filmmaker Rick Famuyiwa’s remarkably fresh coming of age flick Dope has cemented its status as the most crowd-pleasing, au courant movie at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.”

– Marlow Stern, The Daily Beast

Fresh from its world premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival, Open Road Films will release “Dope” nationwide on June 12th, 2015. Written and directed by Rick Famuyiwa (“Brown Sugar,” “Our Family Wedding,” “The Wood”), “Dope” stars Shameik Moore, Tony Revolori, Kiersey Clemons, Blake Anderson, Zoe Kravitz, A$AP Rocky and Chanel Iman.

A critical hit and audience favorite out of the Sundance Film Festival, in “Dope,” Malcolm (Shameik Moore) is carefully surviving life in a tough neighborhood in Los Angeles while juggling college applications, academic interviews, and the SAT. A chance invitation to an underground party leads him into an adventure that could allow him to go from being a geek, to being dope, to ultimately being himself.

Producers are Forest Whitaker and Nina Yang Bongiovi. Executive producers are Michael Y. Chow, Rick Famuyiwa and David Lonner. Co-executive producer is Sean Combs. Co-producers are Mimi Valdes, Caron Veazy and David Grace.
