New Indie Distributor Dark Star Pictures Launches At AFM & Acquires Thomas Middleditch Comedy “Entanglement”

Dark Star Pictures, a new independent film distribution venture, will officially launch the company at the American Film Market. Founded by Breaking Glass Pictures executive Michael Repsch, the company will be looking to solidify a full 2018 release slate with finished films at this year’s market.

“Dark Star Pictures is committed to bringing diversified and hyper-targeted content to a millennial-focused audience in the digital age,” says Michael Repsch, President and Founder. “Our goal is to bring auteur-driven unique voices to North American audiences, films that challenge viewers while keeping them wanting more and most importantly starting conversations.”

The alternative romantic comedy, “Entanglement,” will be Dark Star’s first nationwide theatrical, VOD and Digital release, slated for February 9th, 2018. The film premiered at the 2017 Seattle International Film Festival and stars Thomas Middleditch (HBO’s “Silicon Valley”) and Jess Weixler (“Teeth,” AMC’s “The Son”). Dark Star negotiated the deal with Thunderbird Entertainment.

Other upcoming titles include “Gutland,” “All You Can Eat Buddah,” and “The Queen of Hollywood Blvd”; all of which Dark Star will be taking through festivals into 2018. Debuting at TIFF in September, “Gutland” is a Luxembourgish noir thriller starring Vicky Krieps, who is featured alongside Daniel Day-Lewis in the upcoming Paul Thomas Anderson film “Phantom Thread.” “All You Can Eat Buddah” also debuted at TIFF followed by a Fantastic Fest bow; the film is a surrealist political skewed fantasy about an all-inclusive vacation resort in Cuba. Equal parts Roger Corman and Tarantino, “The Queen of Hollywood Blvd.” is being slated for a World Premiere in 2018. The film features the last on-screen appearance of legendary character actor Michael Parks.
