Movie Review: Satellites Crash As “The Rift” Tears Serbia Apart

[yasr_overall_rating]

An American military satellite crash lands in Eastern Serbia and a team of US and Serbian agents are dispatched to secure the remains of the satellite, but when they locate the crash site all is not as it seems.

Fantasy and reality clash in “The Rift.” A group of agents are put together after a satellite crashes in Serbia. This movie explores the many possibilities of time and space. What’s the worst that can happen when you leave four CIA agents in the wilderness? “The Rift” makes claim to answer that very question.

Led by Agent Smith (Ken Foree), the group is made up of ex-hacker-turned-agent Liz (Katarina Cas), professor Dysart (Monte Markham), and escort Darka (Dragan Micanovic). Things get tense after the group makes it to the crash site only to not find a satellite. The group instantly gets attacked by gunfire and enter the fight of their lives. The action is straight to the point and pessimistic at times.

The sound effects of this film are good at creating a grime, visual effect. The tone of the movie is one of continuous mystery and borderline fantasy. The characters and the plot are clearly explained. However, the story feels loose at times. “The Rift,” in all of its eerie fame, manages to leave questions unanswered.

“The Rift” is a convenient Friday night film. Many questions from the initial plot are left unanswered. Why were the agents put together? Why was the initial mission put together? Not having those answers made the film hard to keep up with at times. However, some viewers will still find joy in it.

Overall, the movie left me longing for more. Personally, I would’ve liked a more detailed film, a movie with more character and plot development. The acting is favorable with an approving visual look and accompanying soundtrack. The journey to the end is rocky, but so is everything else on the dark side of the moon.

Available on VOD November 28th and on DVD December 12th
