Movie Review: Keys Unlock The Doors To Horror In “Insidious: The Last Key”

Parapsychologist Dr. Elise Rainier faces her most fearsome and personal haunting yet – in her own family home.

Demons can be terrifying spirits that manipulate, torture and overall scare the pants off their victims. They can gravitate to you as outside forces. They can also visit victims through those close to them. Even with their horrific strengths, one must overcome their fear of demons. In “Insidious: The Last Key,” demons are prevalent, fear has to be overcome, and this is mandatory to continue leaving a regular life.

The movie follows Elise (Lin Shaye) as she travels back home to New Mexico to fight paranormal forces. There, she is tormented by demons from her past. Elise must all relive the traumas of her early childhood and teenage life. The paranormal forces call out to Elise to remind her of their mutual connection. Throughout the film, she must fight her inner demons and in doing so, she also finds out what’s causing all of the paranormal activity in New Mexico.

The movie is filled with horror. Some of the suspenseful scenes will have you jumping from your seat and while some gore shows up, it is not over-the-top. The New Mexico setting helps add even more tension to viewers as the small town landscape has you constantly wondering what’s going to happen next. “Insidious: The Last Key” is good at keeping viewers involved with the development of the characters throughout the film.

I appreciated the sound effects and background sounds of this film. Horror movies are meant to be scary and this one caused me to feel fear as I clutched my popcorn. The performances in this film are very good and the good acting made it easy for me to want to keep up with the stories of each individual character. “Insidious: The Last Key” is a pure horror film and that’s the best part about it.

Overall, I enjoyed it. I was scared because horror movies are supposed to spark fear and “Insidious: The Last Key” did that for me. It honestly made me fear the demented star of the film. I recommend the movie to anyone looking for a terrifyingly good time. It’s exciting and scary, but also tells a wonderful story.

In theaters Friday, January 5th
