Movie Review: Katie Kohler Fights For Her Life As She Travels Down “Apocalypse Road”

“Apocalypse Road” follows the journey of two sisters while separated during a post-apocalyptic depression.

Things get deranged in this new age horror film. “Apocalypse Road,” set in a post-apocalyptic coastal town, follows the lives of two sisters. Katie Kohler & Ashlyn McEvers star as Natalie & Sarah West. The West sisters are clean-cut by all means. Literally, they are clean as the West sisters have not been marked by the beast as much of society has. Being clean comes with a lot of baggage as the West sisters constantly have to fight for their survival. While searching for food they also must avoid being thrown into concentration camps.

The mark of the beast keeps track of all members of society. Citizens all over the country have been infected by disease following the Apocalypse. The mark of the beast was created to keep track of the infected. The West sisters are clean, meaning they aren’t infected. However, most members of society, rich and poor alike, aren’t as fortunate. Being untraceable leads to problems with the government & rebel gangs.

Using the local scenery creates a beautiful background for this film. The setting is mostly rural & industrial. Most of the film takes place in rundown factories, the countryside, homes and along the coastline. The viewpoint is tough, gritty and helps “Apocalypse Road” develop its character. A toenail being ripped off will make you cringe just as much as a gunshot to the head. “Apocalypse Road” successfully manages to capture both the beauty & horror of our world.

Characters’ clothing are ripped while torn and bloody articles make the pain feel real. The fearsome music in the background will have your heart pounding. It will stop with every bat to the head and piece of skin being eaten off. This movie is gore to the core. I’ve never seen a woman’s smeared mascara look so demented.

Overall, this is a very good film. Brett Brentman should be applauded for his work on this film. I think the storytelling in “Apocalypse Road” is great. Everything, from the beginning of the film is brought back home at the end. I personally enjoyed this film and I hope more people should look forward to seeing it.

Available on VOD December 5th
