Movie Review: “All Hell Breaks Loose” Captures The Essence Of The ’70s Exploitation Genre

[yasr_overall_rating]

When the Satan’s Sinners, a vicious motorcycle gang from hell, kidnap one man’s bride, they bite off more than they can chew as now the man is out to save his wife. With the help of a shit-kicking sheriff, a perverted priest, and a cowboy who just might be God, all hell is bound to break loose.

For those of you who grew up after the ’70s, all I can say is, what a damn shame! You managed to miss out on such memorable movie genres like exploitation, sexploitation, bikers, zombies, cannibals, monsters, nudists, slasher, splatter, rape and revenge, and women in prison. But even if you missed out on all of those, fear not, because “All Hell Breaks Loose” manages to single-handedly encompass them all. And then some. Director Jeremy Garner, in his feature-film directorial debut, crams each and every one into a blood-soaked 92 minutes of sheer wonderment and farfetched implausability. And just when you think you’ve seen it all, Mr. Garner turns around and throws another bucket full of body parts in your face, just to make sure you’re still cognizant.

Nick (Nick Forrest) and his virgin bride Bobby Sue (Sarah Kobel Marquette) have just gotten married but as they head off together on their romantic honeymoon, things quickly go south, literally, when they happen upon Satan’s Sinners, a motorcycle gang from hell who have come to earth seeking a young virgin for the big guy downstairs. While trying to protect Bobby Sue, Nick is killed in the process and left on the side of the road for the vultures. The next day, he receives a little divine intervention from God as he pays him a visit and brings him back to life, with the sole intent of saving his girl. Naturally, with Nick being a wimpy underdog, he ends up dying, repeatedly, until he’s finally had enough and along with the help of a depraved priest and a no-nonsense sheriff, they must track down Satan’s Sinners and put an end to them, once and for all, before they send Bobby Sue’s virgin soul to the underworld for all eternity.

“All Hell Breaks Loose” is a fun and entertaining throwback to an era when films looked grainy and dirty, and made you want to shower afterwards, just from having watched them. This is pure Grindhouse indulgence, and there is absolutely no way you can critique a film of this magnitude with both feet placed firmly on the ground, you have to take it for what it is and know where it came from and what it is trying to evoke. The acting is simply atrocious, the camerawork is unsettled and disjointed, and the music is more frightening than the film itself but that is what 1970s biker exploitation movies were all about. So sit back, put your feet up, and prepare to have your nerves put through the ringer because all hell is about to break loose (I couldn’t resist it).
