Movie Review: “Dark Moon Rising” Is A Monster Disaster

[yasr_overall_rating]

A group of shape-shifting werewolves descend upon a small town in search of a girl who is re-born once every 2000 years. She holds the key to their survival and all will die who stand in their way.

“Dark Moon Rising” is a disaster of a film from Uncork’d Entertainment. It tries to put a twist on the traditional werewolf story. Some may be able to look past the bad special effects, however, aside from a few interesting concepts, the film has no redeeming qualities. The plot is convoluted and there are several plot holes, as well as inconsistencies like the werewolf transformations.

The protagonist, Chase, is played by Cameron White. His character isn’t relatable and he conveys no emotion. He and the female lead Dawn, played By Stasi Esper, must fight off a pack of werewolfs and somehow control the powers Dawn is developing. It has a few action scenes where the potential shines but nothing is well executed.

Aside from their shape-shifting powers, the werewolves have other powers that aren’t explained. This brought a level of fantasy absent in most horror films, though the bad graphics and acting make it hard to watch. The soundtrack consists of generic electronic and rock music, that doesn’t add anything to the film. It feels more like an extremely long music video than a feature film.

Several generic villains are introduced but only two play a significant role. The film’s plot is established for a continuation yet nothing is built up. The audience isn’t given a reason to be excited. The film might be trying to capitalize on the popularity of other similar-themed films such as “Twilight” but it falls short in every creative risk it takes.

Available on DVD & Digital August 4th
