When a homeless young musician moves into a sailboat with a spirited elderly widow, the two must overcome their differences and haunting pasts to unlock each other’s dreams.

Love is always an interesting thing. From birth, a mother’s love for her children is unconditional. Mothers have this instinctive nature that allows them to spot out when things are wrong. “Slipaway” examines that unconditional motherly instinct that all women possess. Bonds are formed when love is present and that is where the stars rise.

Fall (Elaine Partnow) is the care-free and radiant daughter of a poet and the movie follows her as she lives daily life while maintaining her poetic spirit. While writing in the park, Fall meets Adam (Jesse Pepe), a homeless pianist. Adam and Fall don’t immediately form a bond, but Adam is convinced to entertain Fall’s friendship after she offers to purchase his piano. True friendship is a connection between two individuals. Throughout “Slipaway,” their bond is tested in this family drama.

The film is filled with curiosity and drama and manages to tell the story of a wonderful elder. Love is a special thing and that thing can be shared even as we deal with our own personal storms. Connections are often lost after they are formed, that’s all a part of life and this film questions those relationships. Some relationships are more important to us then they may be to others and it’s up to each individual person to question those relationships and ultimately save those that are important to their life.

The music provides a soundtrack to set a subtle mood. The characters all have their own personal problems and solutions are found throughout the movie. The seaside setting of this film helps to maintain the scenery and it also allows the main characters of Adam and Fall to further develop their relationship. Chemistry is important in a friendship and “Slipaway” allows Adam and Fall the ability to build that.

Overall, I enjoyed this movie. I think it is a film that can be easily understood by the adult mind and there are definitely some lessons that can be learned from it. Friendship is a relationship that can make all our lives better. A friend is someone who cares for you on your best and worst days so don’t be naive and let a good friend “Slipaway.”
