Today, Marvel’s “Avengers: Age of Ultron” will cross the $1 billion mark in its 24th day of global release. It is Marvel Studios’ third billion-dollar film, alongside Marvel’s “The Avengers” and “Iron Man 3,” and the eighth Disney release to surpass this threshold. As early as today, “Avengers: Age of Ultron” will become the highest grossing film of 2015 domestically, and it is already the second biggest movie of the year internationally and globally.
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” began opening internationally on April 22nd and has grossed $990M globally through May 14th, including $656M from international markets. The film’s top territories are South Korea ($76M), China ($69M), UK ($63M), Mexico ($41M), Brazil ($39M), and Russia ($32M).
Highlights include:
- #1 debut in every market.
- Biggest opening weekend ever in Brazil, Mexico, Hong Kong, Philippines, Ecuador, Bolivia; biggest Western debut ever in South Korea, Peru.
- May 12 debut of $34M in China marked Disney/Marvel’s biggest opening day ever there and the highest non-weekend opening day ever.
“Avengers: Age of Ultron” debuted May 1st in the U.S. and Canada with $191.3M, the second biggest opening weekend of all time, behind only Marvel’s “The Avengers.” The film has now grossed $333M through May 14th and is one of only three films to surpass the $300M mark within 10 days.
The film opens in Japan on July 4th.
