Listen To Two New Singles From The “Suicide Squad” Soundtrack

Set to release on August 5th, the “Suicide Squad” soundtrack is almost as anticipated its movie counterpart. With three singles already doing well with listeners—one of which has been going steady on the iTunes top ten for a few months now—the next two are sure to make it to the top of the charts after the film sees its release this Friday, as they seem to be more relevant to specific characters and plot events rather than the general gist of the movie.

Nearing the release of the film, the latest singles from its soundtrack convey a change of tone from the previous, adrenaline pumping promotional tracks that came before them. They also seem to reveal what might be the contrasting the parts of Harley Quinn and the Joker’s relationship in the movie.

Standing in the Rain” by rapper Action Bronson and the lead singer of The Black Keys, Dan Auerback, featuring “Uptown Funk” producer Mark Ronson, is Motown-inspired and much like something right off of a CeeLo Green album. It is also, by far, more explicit than some of the other tracks on the soundtrack. With Auerback singing the chorus, “I saw you standin’ in the rain/You were holdin’ his hand/And I’ll never be the same,” the lyrics hint to a deception that causes a bitter change of heart for a character (the Joker perhaps?)

The second new release is “Gangsta” by the talented R&B vocalist Kehlani. Co-written by Skylar Grey, it’s sure to be a fast fan favorite. With haunting vocals and dark words, Kehlani speaks for Harley Quinn when she sings that she needs a “Gangsta” to love her “better than all the others do.” The track undoubtedly speaks of the deeper connection between the Joker and Quinn, rather than the advertised mutual insanity.

Other soundtrack contributors we have yet to hear original tracks from include Skylar Grey, who was last heard on the soundtrack of “Fifty Shades of Grey,” and Hip-Hop/Rap artist Kevin Gates.

You can now preview and download “Standing in the Rain” and “Gangsta” on iTunes, and listen to the full, world premiere of “Gangsta” on Apple Music, with commentary from “Suicide Squad” director David Ayer. The soundtrack will be available August 5th on Atlantic Records.
