Summit Entertainment is actively looking for Tom Cruise to lead the charge in their upcoming remake of the 1986 cult classic “Highlander.” The original starred Christopher Lambert as Scottish immortal Connor MacLeod, who cannot die and does not age. The film depicts the climax of an ages-old battle between immortal warriors, depicted through interwoven past and present day storylines. Sean Connery co-starred as Juan Sánchez Villa-Lobos Ramírez, another immortal, like MacLeod, who does not age and cannot die. Unless beheaded.
A rep for Cruise said the actor has many projects in consideration and that in regards to this film, they are “far from talks.” A rep for Summit denies that they are in negotiations with Cruise but did not shy away from the fact that they want him to appear in the movie in some capacity, possibly taking on the Ramírez role that Connery made famous. Cruise proved his effectiveness with a sword in the 2003 movie “The Last Samurai” and when it comes to action films, Cruise usually always hits the mark. Now let’s talk about that Scottish accent…
