FYI Premieres New Series “Unplugged Nation” Monday, July 27

FYI’s new original series, “Unplugged Nation,” follows couples and families who are looking to simplify their lives by moving from crowded, urban cities to secluded, off-the-grid settings. Nine hour-long episodes are set to premiere on Monday, July 27th at 10pm ET.

In each episode, a new family will tour three uniquely “unplugged” properties, in remote locations across America. Before they make their final decision on a home to purchase, they will test out this new lifestyle by living in one of the properties for four days. Off-the-grid expert and outdoors enthusiast, Jay Gruen, will guide each family in the skills needed to transition to a self-sufficient way of life. From harvesting their own food and tending to livestock, to generating their own power, to creating their own home goods – each episode is packed with useful tips on how to successfully live an unplugged lifestyle.

“When you commute by plane, train and automobile every day, you often dream of going unplugged,” said Gena McCarthy, SVP of Programming and Development for FYI. “Unplugged Nation’ serves as a vicarious wish-fulfillment for FYI viewers, who love to explore alternative living options. Viewers can follow along wondering if they could join the unplugged movement and thrive.”

After the four-day trial period, the families will decide whether they can hack it, and change their lifestyle permanently by buying their off-the-grid dream home, or give up, and return to the city to plug back in.

“Unplugged Nation” is produced for FYI by Blast! Films. Nick Cory-Wright and Ed Coulthard are executive producers for Blast! Films. Gena McCarthy and Liz Fine serve as executive producers for FYI.
