Five Of The Best Shows To Watch On Netflix Right Now

Netflix UK is forever adding old favorites, as well as new Originals (and removing some, of course) and this year there’s once again no shortage of Grade A television shows to binge on.

Netflix revealed that 90 percent of its users had binge-watched a series within 12 months of subscribing. It takes only 12 days of becoming a member to begin watching a new series and only three days to get through it.

As Netflix has hit the ground running, let’s look here at some of the very best shows currently available on the streaming service.

It seems that most of us have seen pretty much every episode (yep, all 236) over the course of its run and endless repeats, so much so that we can quote almost every single line of dialogue (or so it seems). However, Netflix gives you the added control of being able to watch your very favorite episodes at will; you know…’The One Where No One’s Ready’ or ‘The One Where Everyone Finds Out,’ etc.

Seriously, do you know anyone who hasn’t been talking about this Netflix original? The brilliant horror series, which follows four regular kids, along with a girl with telekinetic powers, is full of heart. It also features an inter-dimensional monster with the ability to walk through walls. And the ’80s soundtrack is unmissable. The show has tapped into the nostalgic in its viewers. With Netflix offering numerous shows and movies from yesteryear, such as Full House and Highway to Heaven, consumers are lapping up a taste for something old. And that isn’t just in TV and film.

Another area that has acknowledged our love of all things retro is video gaming. Titles such as Power Drill Massacre and Until Dawn, influenced by ’80s slasher movies, are a great throwback to an iconic decade for horror. Online casino games also remain a popular pastime and are themselves tapping into the retro movement, with such titles as The Slotfather and Boomanji (both offered by betcoin.ag and based on classic movie franchises). Savvy Web bettors are turning to sites such as Gamble.io to read reviews of casinos before deciding which one to try. Acknowledging a digital trend, the site reviews only those that accept Bitcoin: a currency that is quickly becoming the online payment method of choice.

The show has become one of the most talked about series since the 10-part doc premiered in late 2015. Following Steven Avert, a man who spent 18 years in jail after being wrongly accused of sexual assault and attempted murder, the show has provoked much debate. Filmed over 10 years, filmmakers Moira Demos and Laura Ricciardo made this show a must watch for fans of true crime.

It appears as though the future of unique superheroes is on television thanks to the partnership between Marvel and Netflix. Krysten Ritter is superb in the titular role as super-strong Jessica Jones. And David Tenant is ideally cast as the mind-controlling Kilgrave, erasing any confusion among sci-fi fans who knew him simply as The Doctor.

James Corden might now be something of a global superstar, but years before he became a late night talk show host in the U.S., he was a critically-acclaimed star and co-writer of a little show called Gavin & Stacey. The much-loved sitcom from Corden and writing partner Ruth Jones revolves around a long-distance relationship between Gavin in Essex and Stacey in South Wales.

So if you’re looking for your next to show to binge (or rebinge), you could do a lot worse than this mix of golden oldies and original shows.
