DVD Review: “Vampirina” Is The New Angelina Ballerina

[yasr_overall_rating]

“Vampirina,” tells the story of a young vampire girl who faces the joys and trials of being the new kid in town when her family moves from Transylvania to Pennsylvania.

Vampirina, known as “Vee” to her friends, is a little girl vampire whose family just moved to live among humans. Full of fun and clever shenanigans, Vee, and her family navigate the cultural differences of being vampires who prefer to sleep during the day, but now have to go to school and try not to scare humans. Vampirina has a dog named “Wolfie,” who turns into a werewolf during a full moon, a live gargoyle name “Gregoria,” a ghost pal “Demi,” and a large Venus flytrap that is also a pet. Vee’s best friend, Poppy, lives next door and together they brave the scares and thrills of growing up and learning to accept each other as they are.

The film has 4 episodes with two tales for each episode. The animation is cute and consistent with the characters wearing the same clothes every day. The dialogue is filled with clever puns that older children will enjoy. For example, the dad quips about “orange is the new black” when trying to talk his family into wearing orange kitten sweaters to be more like the humans. Overall, the stories are simple with pure morals that will entertain younger children and parents will be happy with this film choice.

Available on Disney DVD Tuesday, October 17th
