DVD Review: “The Story Of God With Morgan Freeman” Takes Us On A Wonderful Spiritual Journey

[yasr_overall_rating]

Morgan Freeman presents his quest in order to find how most religions perceive life after death, what different civilizations thought about the act of creation and other big questions that mankind has continuously asked.

National Geographic did not spare any expense bringing this series to our TV screens and personally, my delight was very evident because of my refusal to stop watching. When the title, “The Story of God” came up, I didn’t realize what I was in for. I was inundated with a myriad of ideas about God, creation, life and death and so on, I mean where do you start? We travel to Jerusalem and plumb the depths of the Judeo/Christian beliefs which we are all somewhat acquainted with in the west, however, we also travel back in time to ancient Egypt and read hieroglyphics, five thousand years old, about a pharaoh who wanted to live with the gods of his time, so it appears that the idea of heaven was in our psyche long ago.

We all seem to want to go on so why do we refuse to accept that when we go, we go? Of course, Morgan Freeman introduces us to near-death experiences and the light, the everlasting light that occasionally tosses you back and tells you, “not yet!” Then on to India and their marvelous colorful deities and hundreds of gods for everything, and why not, their vision of their creator. I thought the idea of a core of pure energy came pretty close to the mark for many. Then on to the wonders of Rome and the Vatican, with its splendid art and pageantry, still standing after two thousand years, a tribute to Jesus Christ.

There is no doubt that man yearns for something magnificent, ancient, everlasting out there, somewhere creating even now, and there is no doubt we all want to belong to that energy, you just have to look to the stars and the oceans, the forests and the ice palaces of the world, to know he is all around, or she is, let’s just settle for God. This is a series that should find its niche easily enough, I would be here for a week telling you about the journey I embarked upon, but the truth of the matter is, God is very personal, a very private feeling we don’t share with many, and at the end of the day, that journey is one you take by yourself.
