When her father is sent to prison, spoiled teenager Dani loses everything. Forced to live with her uncle Sam on a farm without horses to ride and to train a sad Dani takes care of a young mule and learns what really counts.
Spoiled teenager Dani has her life turned upside down when her father is sent to prison for securities fraud and she loses everything, including her prize horse. After her horrible step-mother takes her younger brother to live with her, Dani is forced to live with her uncle Sam on a ranch without horses to ride or train. In the beginning, Sam and Dani don’t get along but when he gives her a young mule to look after who’s lost his family too, she bonds with him and begins to understand what’s really important in her life.
I was very pleasantly surprised with this little film. Kevin Sorbo plays Sam, a bachelor veterinarian who lives on a ranch by himself. Sorbo was fun to watch in Hercules so it was a real treat to see him in this, yielding only a stethoscope. Kristy Swanson plays Jody, Sam’s neighbor and love interest but being the stubborn male he is, it takes Dani to make him see just how much she really likes him. Ms. Swanson, when she’s not battling vampires, is very natural and very likable but Danielle Chuchran was a revelation.
She gives a remarkable performance as the embittered young Dani and the poignancy and sincerity which she brings to her role, touched me to tears. The film explores the importance of family, friendship and forgiveness and it’s these very attributes that come into play when Dani’s little brother’s plane crashes in the wilderness. Dani and her newfound family band together and form a strategy to help rescue them. Director Craig Clyde has crafted a heartfelt movie with terrific performances and some stunning mountain photography. Highly recommended.
