DVD Review: “Prisoner X” Has A Good Premise But Doesn’t Do Much With It

[yasr_overall_rating]

As the world rages in war and civil strife, a CIA agent arrives at a secret underground prison to interrogate a time-traveling terrorist, who she believes is responsible for the unfolding catastrophe.

If someone asked you to go see a film about Jihadists from the future, would your mouth water? Mine didn’t either. “Prisoner X” has an okay plot point, a man claiming to be a jihadist from the future (140 years to be exact) is being interrogated in a place called The Sandbox. A CIA agent is asked to help link together the story and then…well not much else happens. The story is unfavorably bland and doesn’t give the viewer a reason to remember it.

This could be, in part, due to its very low budget but other films have had similar budgets and done well for themselves. It can probably be chalked up to a bad script and a lukewarm plot that caused this film to be unoriginal and forgettable. Although the film does have some points that can pique your interest slightly if you can follow the story, it remains a jigsaw puzzle that someone really shouldn’t invest their time in, not to mention the ending will either cause you to become angry that you wasted your time on it or try for the next hour to work out why the film didn’t use those last moments to connect anything that could claim to be cohesive. “Prisoner X” should get life without parole.
