Comedy Central Renews “Broad City” For A Third Season

Yaaaaas! It’s the start of a new year and the ballsy broads of “Broad City” are putting down roots and not leaving New York any time soon! Comedy Central has renewed the critically-acclaimed scripted series for a third season of 10 episodes, it was announced today by Kent Alterman, President, Content Development and Original Programming, Comedy Central.

“It has just been brought to my attention that ‘Broad City’ is a female-centric show, but we’re going to do more anyway,” said Alterman.

Named one of the “Best TV Shows of 2014” by Time, Rolling Stone, Complex, A.V. Club and HitFix and described as “one of this season’s best new comedies” and an “instant sensation” by Rolling Stone, the series was an immediate hit when it premiered last January. Jacobson and Glazer’s dynamic relationship, combined with their impeccable comedic timing and chemistry, earned the series universal praise from fans and critics alike.

Created by Jacobson and Glazer, who executive produce along with Amy Poehler, 3 Arts’ Dave Becky, Sam Saifer and Tony Hernandez, and co-executive produced by Eric Slovin, “Broad City” was the #1 show in cable in its timeslot with Men 18-34 during its first season and the #1 new comedy on cable in 2014 among Men 18-34. (Source: Nielsen, Most Current data) The series also received nominations for “Best Comedy Series” from the Broadcast Television Journalists Association and Logo’s “New Now Next Awards.”

Beginning today, fans of the show can download a free “Broad City Keyboard” App which features show-specific emojis and episodic GIFs, allowing fans of the series to text their friends with fun pictures and emojis that express their bond to “Broad City” and celebrate the show’s unique take on pop culture. Featured emojis at launch include characters such as Abbi, Ilana, and Lincoln; food items like a bagel, taco, hotdog, and rotisserie chicken; and other show-inspired emojis including a joint, condom and the middle finger.

Initial GIFs available include Ilana dancing, Garol eating yogurt, Abbi and Ilana drumming, and the “Eight F**king Thousand Dollars” dream sequence at the bank. Each Thursday, the “Broad City” App will be updated with new emojis and GIFs from the previous night’s episode. The free iOS app is available now and can be downloaded via the iTunes App Store. Courtesy of the collective brains of and starring Abbi Jacobson and Ilana Glazer, “Broad City” is an odd couple comedy about two best friends navigating their twenties in New York City whose adventures always lead down unexpected and outlandish paths. They’re broke, flawed and don’t shy away from the sticky situations NYC throws at them — they dive right into the muck. But no matter how bad it gets, these young broads are always down with whatever hits them.

Joining Jacobson and Glazer as series regulars are Hannibal Buress, Arturo Castro, Paul Downs, John Gemberling, Chris Gethard and Stephen Schneider. Guest stars during the second season include Bob Balaban, Aidy Bryant, Patricia Clarkson, Susie Essman, Janeane Garofalo, Kumail Nanjiani, Kelly Ripa, Seth Rogen, Amy Ryan, Alia Shawkat and David Wain.
