“Close Encounters Of The Third Kind” (Remastered In 4K) Is Back In Theaters This Friday For One Week Only

After an encounter with U.F.O.s, a line worker feels undeniably drawn to an isolated area in the wilderness where something spectacular is about to happen.

For its 40th anniversary, Sony Pictures are releasing Steven Spielberg’s classic “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” in theaters for one week only beginning Friday, September 1st. The movie has been remastered in 4K and on September 19th, Sony will be releasing the movie on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray.

Two “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” 4K Blu-ray packages will be available to choose from, each containing all three versions of the film: theatrical, 1980 special edition, and 1997 director’s cut. Both packages include three discs with 5.1 DTS-HD Master Audio and Hdr, but the Limited Edition additionally includes illuminated packaging that plays the iconic 5-tone motif as well as an expanded booklet with rare archival photos.

New bonus features have been commissioned for the 40th anniversary. ‘Steven’s Home Movies & Outtakes’ includes rare behind-the-scenes footage and gags, while ‘Three Kinds of Close Encounters’ includes new interviews with Steven Spielberg, J.J. Abrams, and Denis Villeneuve.
