‘The Girl from Home’ is author Adam Mitzner’s fourth book and he has put a lot of work into the background. It tells the story of a money genius who considers himself to be the Lord of the Universe, a very successful Wall Street player, has a trophy wife, a million dollar apartment, and all the trappings of the wealthy and as an elite, he tells you, “he wants what he wants,” his mantra.
Money speak can be very boring and while it might appeal to some, and pique the interest of others, this tale was not for me. The storyline was well told but added nothing new. Jonathan Caine is the center of this book and I detested him from the start. He is soulless and greedy and nothing in his make up draws you to him. When he over-extends his hedge fund, he loses big time and so do his clients and as a result, he is fired. He ends up taking care of his dying father at the behest of his sister and while there, he meets an old flame, who just happens to be married to an abuser who constantly beats her but she stays because of her teenage kids.
At the high school reunion, they immediately start an affair, a dangerous one, considering the mentality of her husband. Of course, he ends up dead as a door nail but did she commit the crime or did he? You are going to have to read the book to find out. The legal aspects of the story are clever and at the end of the day, it is played out in full.
I don’t know what to say about adults falling into eternal love and risking everything, literally after knowing each other only four weeks. Anyway, as I said, it is well-written and will appeal to many for sure, I just didn’t care what happened to him in the end.
