AMC Networks-Backed SHUDDER Acquires “Jordskott” From ITV Studios Global Entertainment

AMC Networks-backed premium streaming service Shudder announced today that it has acquired exclusive North American rights for Season 1 and the upcoming Season 2 of the acclaimed international thriller series “Jordskott” from ITV Studios Global Entertainment (ITVS GE). Declared by The Guardian as a series “you can’t take your eyes off it,” “Jordskott” Season 1 will launch with the first two episodes available on April 6th with two new episodes premiering each week on Shudder.

Season 1 of the critically-acclaimed Scandi-noir thriller revolves around the seven-year disappearance of police investigator Eva Thörnblad’s daughter, Josefine. Still attempting to deal with the grief of her loss, Eva is haunted by the belief that Josefine did not drown during their fateful trip to the Silverhojd Lake, but was abducted. When a young boy goes missing in the same area, this motivates Eva to delve deeper into the mystery of the forest and confront her darkest fears.

Starring leading Swedish talent Moa Gammel as detective Eva Thörnblad, as well as Göran Ragnersta, Richard Forsgren, and Lia Boysen, the compulsively watchable Swedish thriller has gained much-acclaimed praise to date. Collider praised it as “an eco-fantasy with a healthy heaping of horror” and that the series “will haunt you long after you’ve left it behind.” The Radio Times cited its “nicely oppressive atmosphere and an enveloping creepiness.”

“Jordskott” is the latest in a series of high-profile exclusive acquisitions for Shudder, following recent acquisitions of thriller miniseries “Beyond the Walls” as well as well-received premiere films such as Alice Lowe’s witty slasher “Prevenge,” J-Horror franchise fusion “Sadako vs Kayako,” indie horror “We Go On” and paranormal spine-chiller “Dearest Sister.” With Shudder continuing to expand its offering of the best in thrillers, suspense, and horror content with multiple exclusives premiering on the platform per month, “Jordskott” is a perfect addition to the leading premium service.

Shudder’s VP of Global Acquisitions and Co-Productions, Aurelie de Troyer shared: “’Jordskott’ has thrilled us with its alternative take on the crime drama phenomenon with elements of supernatural and Nordic-Noir mystery. We are excited to bring this series to our North American members and this is a compelling addition to the ever-expanding Shudder slate of films and series.”

Greg Johnson, EVP Distribution, Americas, ITV Studios Global Entertainment, commented: “We are delighted that premium streaming service Shudder has acquired the North American SVOD rights for this critically acclaimed series. It’s great to see the platform continuing to showcase high-profile, quality series content as well as film.”

Season 1 of the 10-part series has been produced by Palladium Fiction and originally premiered to critical acclaim as the highest rated drama in 2015 on Swedish network STV and the UK’s ITV Encore. Season 2 is currently in production and will be available in 2018.
